In addition to cannabis, heroin, cocaine and amphetamines, new psychoactive substances are increasingly being produced, sold and consumed in the European market.<\/p>\n<p>Hard\u00a0drugs like cocaine and heroin are gaining ground in Europe.\u00a0Cocaine purity has increased and users are growing in number. In\u00a02020, cocaine seizures reached an all-time high of 181\u00a0tonnes.<sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Heroin use is also reaching shocking new records. For example, almost 16\u00a0tonnes of acetic anhydride \u2013 a precursor for heroin \u2013 were seized in the European Union in 2018. Another 9\u00a0tonnes were stopped before they could enter the market. Labs were also discovered in Eastern Europe, Spain and the Netherlands, where morphine was being used to make heroin.
